New Year Update on West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals
Changes to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals began shortly after ringing in the New Year
On Friday, January 4, former Raleigh County Circuit Judge John A. Hutchison was sworn as Justice of the State Supreme Court of Appeals in to fill the vacancy left by former Justice Allen Loughry. Justice Hutchison has spent the last 25 years as a circuit court judge in Beckley, West Virginia.
According to multiple media outlets, West Virginia Senate President Mitch Carmichael stated at the Legislative Lookahead forum in Charleston on Friday, January 4, that he has contacted West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey about handling an appeal to the United States Supreme Court regarding the decision of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals decision which halted impeachment proceedings.
